Let me tell you a little secret. For someone who spends her days guiding Visionaries and helping leadership teams find clarity, I've had more than my fair share of moments where I felt totally disconnected from my own inner voice.

As a business owner, it can be incredibly noisy out there. Advice is everywhere—podcasts, newsletters, masterminds. That one well-meaning friend who thinks you should "just hire more help." The "shoulds" pile up quickly: You should scale faster. You should post more on LinkedIn. You should try that new AI tool everyone is raving about.

But sometimes, in the pursuit of growth, we drown out the very thing that helped us start the business in the first place—our intuition. That quiet, inner voice that knows exactly what we need… if we just slow down enough to listen.

I’ve Been There

There was a season in my business where I was chasing all the advice. I’m talking content calendars, course launches, back-to-back networking events—the works. I was draining and I was misaligned. Something felt off, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

Eventually, I realized: I had outsourced my decision-making. I was filtering everything through the lens of what worked for others, instead of what was true for me. That’s when I came back to my inner compass and started asking two vital questions:

Is it true?

Is it helpful?

These two questions changed everything.

Is it True?

Strip away the fear, ego, and pressure. What’s actually true in this moment? Maybe it’s that your business is doing just fine, even if growth is slower than last year. Maybe it’s that you’re exhausted, and what you really need is rest—not a new marketing funnel.

Is it Helpful?

Truth is great, but it needs to be useful. Ask yourself: What actually helps me move forward, gently but intentionally? Sometimes that means pausing. Other times, it’s taking bold action. Your intuition usually knows the difference.

My Personal Toolkit

To help me sift through the noise and reconnect with my own inner voice, I’ve adopted a few go-to tools:

  • Journaling: Not the fluffy kind. I mean 10 minutes of stream-of-consciousness brain dumps to clear the clutter.

  • Clarity Breaks: I literally schedule time to check-in with me. I ask, “Where am I? Where do I want to be?” These intentional breaks help me sift through the noise and focus in on what really matters.

  • Gut Checks: Before making a big decision, I sit quietly and ask myself, Does this feel expansive or restrictive? My body always tells me the truth.

  • The Empathy Mirror: If I’m really stuck, I ask, What advice would I give someone else if they came to me with this problem? Nine times out of ten, the answer is obvious when it’s not my problem.

You Already Know

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I don’t even have an inner voice,” I get it. But you do. You’ve just got to turn down the external volume long enough to hear it again.

So here’s your challenge: the next time you’re bombarded with a dozen “shoulds,” pause and ask yourself:

  • Is it true?

  • Is it helpful?

  • What advice would I give to a friend in my shoes?

You already know what you need. You just have to trust yourself enough to listen.

Here's to turning down the noise and tuning back in,

Lisa
