Can’t See the Forest for the Trees? It’s Time for a Clarity Break

I love staring at clouds to let my imagination spot shapes, just like when I was a kid.

On a recent long drive, we started playing the “imagination game,” and I got so excited when I saw a rabbit—bunny ears and all off in the distance!
But as we kept driving and got closer, the shape lost its form. What once looked like a fluffy white rabbit slowly turned into just... a blob.
That got me thinking about my Visionaries.
How often do we find ourselves knee-deep in the weeds, spinning our wheels, and wondering why we can’t seem to move the needle in our business—or our lives?
One of the biggest challenges for entrepreneurs and leaders is proximity blindness. We get so close to our own problems, stuck in the day-to-day grind, that we lose sight of the bigger picture.
This is what I like to call “Can’t see the forest for the trees” syndrome. And guess what? It’s totally normal. It’s also totally fixable.
Enter: The Clarity Break™
If you’re running on EOS®, you’ve probably heard of a Clarity Break. If you haven’t, let me introduce you to your new best friend.
A Clarity Break is intentional time—off the grid, out of your inbox, and away from distractions—where you work on the business instead of in it. It’s a scheduled pause to reflect, zoom out, and regain perspective.
Not sure what to do during a Clarity Break? Here are some thought-starters:
What’s really working—and what’s not?
Where am I feeling stuck?
Am I focusing on the right priorities?
What issues keep resurfacing?
Are we still aligned with our vision?
Why Clarity Breaks Matter
Even the most visionary leaders need to zoom out once in a while. Clarity Breaks help bring the birds-eye view back to get the big picture into focus. Taking a few steps back allows breakthrough ideas and long-overdue decisions to be born.
When you regularly make time for Clarity Breaks:
You reconnect with your why.
You identify blind spots and stuck points.
You bring renewed energy and focus back to your team.
Real Talk: You Need to Put It on the Calendar
Clarity doesn’t happen by accident—it happens by design. If you don’t make time for it, something else will take its place. Your calendar is a reflection of your priorities, and if gaining clarity isn’t on it, it won’t happen. So block it. Protect it. Honor it.
Whether it's once a week, twice a month, or at the start of every quarter, treat your Clarity Break like a meeting with your most important client—YOU! No rescheduling. No “I’ll get to it later.” Show up for yourself with the same commitment and consistency you bring to your team. You’ll be amazed at the insight that comes when you just give yourself the gift of time and space to think.
Ready to Stop Spinning and Start Winning?
Clarity Breaks aren’t just a nice-to-have—they’re your secret weapon for sustainable growth. As a Visionary, your brilliance shines brightest when you give it room to breathe. So step away from the hustle, give yourself permission to pause, and look to see if there’s a bunny hiding in those clouds. It could be the key to unlocking the next big move in your business.
